First things first…
Genemix is a combination of three things…God
(first of course), my wife and I, and the love of music.
Over the years dancing and listening to
music other than classic Hymns was to be considered morally wrong and sinful in
the Christian community, but anyone that has a great passion for music knows
that it is not always the delivery that matters with a song. The content within
a song counts for a large percentage of how it is received and perceived.
Until I met my wonderful, beautiful and
intelligent wife in 1994 I only knew a little bit about Christian music. The
little bit I did know bored me to tears. My wife (girlfriend at the time) played
her dc Talk “Free at Last” CD for me to listen to. I was blown away! I loved it!
Wholesome messages with an awesome beat. You would think that I ran out and
bought the CD right…WRONG! I began to secretly listen to Christian music because
my family and friends were of the world, and I believed they would think I was
weak, un-hip, soft and most of all…not one of them.
As the years went by my love for Christian
music grew and I became a Disk Jockey around the outskirts of Philadelphia P.A.
playing secular music. I worked in a lot of bars and clubs and did a wedding
here and there. Whenever the crowd looked really drunk I would slip in a
Christian song…I figured they wouldn’t know the difference. But I was still
afraid to just dive right into the Christian music scene.
Finally in 1997 my wife and I got married (I
was 17). We had already had a son and there was to be a daughter on the way. My
wife Christina (which is spelled peculiarly close to Christian…isn’t it?) came
from a knowledgeable Christian background. That is what has helped me become the
person I am today. There were many rocky years before I finally gave my heart to
Christ. It took my family and me moving to Houston, Texas in 1998 where her
Mother and Stepfather lived. Believe me…it wasn’t easy. I went from being around
people who didn’t want Christ in their life to being around people that fell on
the floor in the Spirit. Fitting in was a big thing to me because I did not want
to be rejected by her family in Texas. I wanted to say I had Christ in my life
while still living everyday life like he wasn’t there.
We were blessed with another healthy baby
boy in September of 2004, and the more and more I heard the Word when I went to
Church (Christian Tabernacle) and the more my wife showed me the Glory of God I
became very interested in the light in her life. I received the Lord as my
Savior in 2005 and renewed my wedding vows shortly after on our 8th
wedding anniversary.
The Lord began to show me things…things that
he wanted me apart of. I disagreed a time or two but eventually did what God was
asking. In March of 2006 He gave me another idea. I just kind of blew it off
because I felt I had a lot going on in my life. It was an idea for a Christian
Disc Jockey Company. I finally entertained the notion after making a club remix
of Mary Mary’s hit single “Shackles (Praise You)”. I really enjoyed the feeling
that I got when I made that mix and thought “this would be great to do all the
time”! I went full force trying to come up with a full length mix CD of today’s
hottest Christian artists with their newest or best known song. The outcome was
amazing. I prayed that God would give me direction. He gave me the name Genemix.
I asked God what it meant. He showed me that there were no FULL TIME Christian
D.J.s in the area and very few in the nation. This was truly a new beginning…and
that’s when I saw the GENE in GENESIS and mix is what I do. What an honor!
The rest is history in the making!
We began a brand new On-Line Radio Station
in August of 2006 as a promotional tool for the D.J. service/Production Company,
and as of December of 2006 we have had over 1,500 listening hours and we have
been added to over 100 listener’s presets as one of their favorite stations. We
play a mix of Contemporary Christian, Gospel, Praise & Worship and Christian
Club & Dance remixes. This site was started in September of 2006. The Lord told
me that Genemix would go very far and be very successful as long as I kept him
first. We (my wife and I) received our DBA for Genemix in October of 2006 and
the Lord then made it so in November of 2006 I could leave my job and work for
Him with Genemix full time.
It has not been easy but we are finally up
to full speed. I Thank God for this awesome opportunity and challenge you to
find your destiny in Christ.
"For I know the plans I have for you,"
declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future". Jeremiah 29:11
Your Brother in Christ,
